27th EXCO Elections 11:15 PM

Hi guys

The long-awaited elections is now here!
To start off, we need to define the roles of each EXCO position.
Please read through carefully and think about which positions you want to run for.

Chairman (Sec 3) 主席
The chairman bears the main responsibility for the overall performance of the orchestra. He will need to lead the orchestra together with the EXCO with the ultimate aim of improving the orchestra's standard and its members' experience in it. This job will definitely require adequate leadership, management, communication skills and judgement.

Vice-Chairman (Sec 3) 政委
The vice-chairman works closely with the chairman to assist his job and will take charge in his absence. Holds equal rank and authority as the chairman. Will mainly work on improving the spirit of the orchestra to ensure a positive environment in the orchestra through welfare initiatives, activities or even speeches.

Secretary (Sec 3) & Assistant Secretary (Sec 2) 秘书
The secretary is responsible for the administrative tasks within the orchestra, such as taking down meeting minutes, website management and liasing with external vendors.

Quartermaster (Sec 3) & Assistant Quartermaster (Sec 2) 司务长
The quartermaster is responsible for general logistic tasks within the orchestra, such as the scores management, music stands, chairs, practice venue and performance costume.

Section Leaders (Sec 3) (弦乐,弹拨,低音,打击,笛子,笙唢) & ASLs (Sec2) (弦乐,弹拨) 小组长
The section leaders are responsible for their respective sections' attendance, guidance and welfare. They are in fact one of the most important roles in the CO. Require leadership skills to be able to bond the section members and integrate the newcomers. Must take care of each and every member within the section and make sure they know about updates from the EXCO and teachers.

Student Conductor (Sec3) & Assistant Student Conductor 学生指挥
The student conductor will conduct the orchestra in the absence of 黄老师. He must firstly have good musical sense, be able to maintain discipline and enthusiastic in order to influence everyone to be eager during practice. He should be familiar the piece he is conducting and every instrument in the orchestra.

EXCO Guidelines:
1. Every EXCO member must be fully committed and responsible towards the orchestra.
2. Every EXCO member must respect one another's roles and duties, especially up the hierarchy. Resolve differences by consulting higher authority (Eg. Teacher in charge, Chairman/Vice-Chairman)
3. Every EXCO member must act as role models in the orchestra and uphold the orchestra values in order to positively influence and motivate the orchestra members.
4. The EXCO be united in order to lead the orchestra.
5. The EXCO must always put the orchestra's welfare and excellence above all.
6. EXCO members must be humble with their position in the EXCO.

Download the form over here http://www.mediafire.com/?cmn03l7d5qy86sx
Please hand it up to any of the EXCO members by 23rd July so that we can organise interviews before the elections itself, so please be ready to free some time in the afternoon to come for interviews.
We will contact the candidates later on.

Feel free to approach any committee members to clarify any doubts!

Good luck for the elections!
26th EXCO (:

June Holiday Practices 12:09 PM

Hi guys,

Open house performance was rather decent, but notice we have a tendency to improve a lot before a performance (like this and SYF) but do badly for the actual performance (correction: not up to expectation), perhaps we have to get rid of our 临时抱佛脚 habit in order to solve this problem

Due to HBL there will be no 大组 practice on 23rd May (Wed). But if you have 小组 practice with your teacher please be present.

June holiday practices will be as per normal for the first two weeks of holidays, on Wednesday and Friday afternoons (1400-1800), and there will be extra practices on Monday and Thursday for the last two weeks in the morning (0900-1300).
In summary, the dates and times of practice for the holidays are:

Week 1: 30th May (W), 1st June (F)
Week 2: 6th June (W), 8th June (F)
Week 3: 11st June (M), 13rd June (W), 14th June (T), 15th June (F)
Week 4: 18th June (M), 20th June (W), 21st June (T), 22nd June (F)

Important Dates:
2nd June Drumming From East to West 击鼓东西
10th June HCCO Concert 天籁回音
6th July HCICO Concert 雄音华韵
7th July RGSCO Concert 狮韵龙吟
7th July A Musical Tapestry - Hwa Chong Military Band, String Orchestra and Choir Combined Charity Concert

Cheers for having our own concert,
Yixin

CSM and Open House 11:47 PM

Hi all,

Please be informed that there will be no practice next Friday, 11/5 due to the Combined Sports Meet. However this might be good news to most, be aware that this break affects our progress rather greatly, especially when we have performances coming up.

There will be performance for Open House in 2 weeks' time on 19 May, our slot for performance is 1230-1300, however we will need time to practice in the morning and time for us to pack up our stuff, for which details will be confirmed later.

Let's practise hard for the performance and concert, opportunities to bring music to people, time is tight! Please come to practice prepared all the time and listen and remember what 指挥 says and make sure you do it subsequently all the time, write corrections down on your score if you wish.

We are also thinking of making it compulsory to memorise scores so that you can look up at 指挥 more, but at the same time keep all the 音乐处理 in mind such as crescendos and decrescendos, the mood and texture, and whoever is supposed to shine at which parts, keep this in your mind at all times, then it's truly music.

That's all for now...

Cheers,
Yixin

11:34 PM

Hi guys,

Hope you guys enjoyed yourself and took away much from the camp!
I really hope you don't forget every thing that was said during the camp, and to keep those things, and values, in mind and display them with your actions, not only during practice but also in your daily life
Also, once again, remember the feeling when we played 龙腾 in the dark (partly to irritate the scouts), that is the spirit of our HCICO
You may look forward to another camp in June (:

I'm very happy with the attitude shown in the last practice on Friday, even Mr Tan noticed a difference, and I'm quite sure 指挥 was rather pleased too
But of course make sure we keep this up, even until after us seniors leave and when you yourself retire from the orchestra as Sec4s, this is an matter of tradition and education, which I hope can be revived in HCICO

The EXCO will be going through your submissions of the reflection sheets carefully too.

Updates will be that practice on 21st March is cancelled due to Founders' Day, and also to serve as a break from the camp, but of course I expect much for the next practice, please practise your instrument at home diligently and come ready for both 小组 and 大组

Also, for the SNCO interaction next Saturday, 24th March, details will be revealed later, but please be informed that everyone must pay the $10 originally meant for the March Camp as it will be carried over to the interaction, and the remainder to fund some projects by the EXCO, I hope you understand

Cheers,
Yixin (:

March Camp! 11:19 PM

Hi guys,
We are having a March Camp next week!
Hope you guys look forward to it and come with an open mind

It's from 15/03(Thursday) morning to 16/03(Friday) evening, during the March holidays
Reporting Time: 1300h, 15th March
Reporting Venue: Chinese Orchestra Room

The EXCO really pushed hard for this camp, the first in many years, so I hope you will appreciate our efforts to improve the CO, it's not just our duty, but everyone's responsibility right (:

Please bring the consent form and $10 for all meals on Friday
The link to the soft copy is here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?d9odnigarwus239

In the case if you cannot make it for the entire or part of the camp, please approach me (Yixin) or any non-blur EXCO members and inform us about it, provided with a valid reason so we can excuse you

Camp attendance is compulsory, hope you all can understand (:
Maybe it's time for change now

Cheers,
Yixin
